Difference Between Hajj and Umrah
Umrah similar to the Hajj, but both have some differences. At least there are four major differences between the Hajj and Umrah. The following diagram difference Hajj and Umrah, and the explanation below:
|1. Law of Hajj: Fard||1. Law of Umrah: Some scholar argues fared, others argue Sunna|
|2. Time: 9-13 of Dzulhijah||2. Time: any time|
|3.Place: Masjidil haram +Arafah+Muzdalifah+Mina||3.Place: Masjidil al haram|
|4. Duration: 4-5 days||4. Duration: 3-4 hours|
1. Law of Hajj and Umrah
Law of Hajj is Fard (obligatory) and there is no difference of opinion among scholars on this matter.
As for Umrah there is a difference of opinion from the scholars. According to Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik rah.a umroh are sunna. Instead, according to Imam Syafiie and imam Ahmad umrah are Fard (obligatory) . Therefore, according to both perform umrah once are fard, for those who can afford.
Hajj can not be done at any time.
Within a year, the hajj is done only once, and core of the hajj has to be done on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, when wuquf at Arafat, because the Hajj is essentially wuquf at Arafat. Therefore Hajj can only be done once in a year.
Instead, Umrah can be done at any time without any provisions.
Hajj is not only done at the Kaaba alone, but also involves other places outside the city of Mecca.
In the hajj, besides we shall tawaf and sai in masjidil al haram, we are also obliged to go to other places outside the city of Mecca, which Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina.
Physically, the third place was not in the city of Mecca, but was out of town, within 5 to 25 Km. In the days outside the Haj season, the third place was not a decent place to live or occupied by humans, because its shape is only desert and rocks. Whereas in the third place that we should stay (mabit), meaning we eat, drink, sleep, defecate, bathe, pray, pray, dhikr and all the activities that we need to do, everything we do in the middle of the desert. For that we have to get used to being in the tents with the situation that is quite simple.
While Umrah only involves the Kaaba and so, which is technically all located in Masjidil al-Haram.
Another difference between Hajj and Umrah is in terms of duration or length of the worship it.
Technically practice in the field, a series of rituals of the Hajj more time consuming than Umrah. People perform the Hajj fastest performed at least four days, the date Dzulhijjah 9-10-11-12. That was when he took early Nafar. Meanwhile, when he took Nafar Tsani, means coupled to 5 days.
While the duration of the umrah only takes 3 to 4 hours. Because in practice, for ihram from miqot, tawaf 7 times, sai between Al Safa and Al Marwa 7 times and ended taqsir or shave only takes 3-4 hours everything is completely done
